What is Zapain? Zapain 30 mg 500 mg is a compound medication containing a mixture of codeine phosphate and paracetamol, also sold under the brand name Co-Codamol among others. Both the codeine and paracetamol are believed by scientists to be more effective at relieving pain when used in conjunction, which makes it a popular medication when others have not been sufficient on their own. It has been approved by the Medications and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and is available on the National Health Service (NHS). Lower strengths of 8 mg / 500 mg are available to buy over the counter (OTC) and stronger doses of 15 mg / 500 mg and 30 mg / 500 mg are available with a prescription. If you are unable to get a prescription from your GP however, you can buy Zapain online from our Europe based pharmacy at affordable prices.
Zapain is an opioid based painkiller used for the treatment of mild to moderate pain when other painkillers such as ibuprofen or aspirin are not effective enough. It is most commonly used for dental pain; however, it can be used for the treatment of other types of acute pain such as migraines, muscular aches and pains, or after minor surgery or injury. It can also be used for the management of chronic conditions where pain is a symptom, such as arthritis. As we mentioned earlier, using the medication as a compound increases its pain-relieving properties which means it will help manage your symptoms more effectively than using either codeine or paracetamol on their own. It is sometimes used as a second-line treatment option for cancer related pain, however there is no conclusive evidence for how effective this is.
Zapain tablets have 2 active ingredients, with the more potent being codeine phosphate, which is an opioid analgesic which targets neuronal opioid receptors in the brain. Nerve cells within the central nervous system (CNS) are called neurons, and they use electrical signals called action potentials to transmit information. Action potentials associated with pain are transmitted by receptors called nociceptors, which travel along nerves called C fibres where they reach the brain, and you experience the perception of pain. The action potential activity levels are regulated by chemicals called neurotransmitters, which can be either excitatory or inhibitory. Neurotransmitters are produced and secreted when their receptors are stimulated, for example when the active ingredient of a medication binds to them. Opioid receptors are found throughout the CNS, and they belong to a family of G protein-coupled receptors, which respond in the same way whether they are stimulated by opioids produced by the body, such as endorphins, or external opioids such as codeine or morphine. Codeine is metabolised into morphine after ingestion and this then binds to the opioid receptors, increasing your threshold for pain by reducing the rate of noxious (pain) action potentials along the C fibres.
Zapain tablets are quickly absorbed by the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and have a high bioavailability of 90%, which means that only 10% of the active ingredients are lost when they travel from the GI tract to the brain via the cardiovascular system. You will start to feel the effects of the medication after about 30 minutes, and it reaches peak plasma concentration after around 1 hour. The onset of action may vary slightly depending on certain factors such as your body mass index (BMI) and metabolism. The level of absorption and bioavailability, however, is not affected if you take it on an empty stomach or with food. Zapain lasts for between 4 and 6 hours, which is the amount of time that you will benefit from its pain-relieving properties. The elimination half-life is on average 3 hours, which is shorter than its duration of action. The elimination half-life refers to the time it takes for half the amount of the medication to be eliminated from the body, which means that it will be detected in your system for at least twice the amount of this time.
The exact Zapain dosage will vary according to the type and severity of your pain. Zapain 30 mg 500 mg is the most commonly used dose for moderate pain, and 1 to 2 tablets should be taken per dose, up to a maximum of 8 tablets per day. If you are taking it for chronic pain, then you should take your first dose in the morning and re-dose throughout the day as necessary. You should leave at least 4 hours in between each dose otherwise too much will build up in your system at once, which could be dangerous. Too much codeine can cause difficulty breathing and too much paracetamol can damage your liver, so spacing the doses evenly throughout the day is important. If you are taking it for acute pain then you can take 1 to 2 tablets when you feel uncomfortable and re-dose as necessary, again leaving 4 hours between each dose.
All medications have the potential to cause side effects and so do Zapain tablets. Fortunately, most people do not experience any and for those that do, they are usually minor and resolve on their own. Some of the more common Zapain side effects include the following:
Most of the above can be mitigated against by staying well hydrated and you can take an antihistamine or ask your GP for an anti-emetic if you experience nausea. You do not have to stop taking the medication if you experience these side effects unless you feel they are too much for you. Very rarely, people get serious side effects, however these affect less than 1 in 100 people. If you experience any of the following, you should stop taking the medication and seek advice from your GP:
Zapain should ideally be a short-term treatment option. If you are using it for acute pain such as a migraine or period pains, then it should not be taken for more than 3 days. It is sometimes necessary to take it for a few more days or even weeks in a row if you are suffering from more severe pain and your symptoms are not going to resolve quickly, for example if you are recovering from surgery. Some people will need to take it long-term for chronic conditions such as arthritis. One reason it is not ideal as a long-term treatment option is that your body will build tolerance to the active ingredients and therefore it will become less effective over time, or you will need to increase your dose to achieve the same benefit. If you have been taking it for several weeks or months for more than 4 days per week each week, then you will need to gradually taper off the medication to reduce unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.
Are Zapain and Co-Codamol 30/500 mg the same? Essentially yes, they are the same medication because they have the same active ingredients. The only difference is the brand name. Zapain will be manufactured by a different pharmaceutical company, but it will have to adhere to strict quality and safety regulations. The non-active ingredients may vary from company to company, so it is best to check the label to make sure you are not allergic to anything in the medication, such as lactose.
Before you buy Zapain, you should be aware of any contraindications. It is safe for most people over the age of 18 to take, however there are some conditions, groups of people, or medications which can interact with the medication. If any of the following apply to you, then you should seek professional advice before taking it:
It is also important to note that Zapain and alcohol do not mix, and you should avoid drinking while taking it.
